On September 20-21, 2002 there will be held at Medaille College , Buffalo a conference on the topic of
Political Correctness and Its Consequences: US and Canadian Perspectives
At a time when the delicate balancing act between security and freedom is at the forefront of concern of all educated people on both sides of
the US-Canada border, and at a time when some scholars are beginning to address the idea that serious shortfalls in our educational
institutions and policies contributed to the false and ultimately disastrous complacency on the part of the elites in both countries,
the present conference will bring together leading figures in contemporary academic debates to consider the consequences of political correctness from a range of different perspectives.
The conference will be opened by Stephen Balch of the National Association of Scholars and will feature also speakers from the Society for Academic Freedom and Scholarship, the NAS's sister organization in Canada.
The program will include:
Heinz Klatt of the University of Western Ontario: Political Correctness as an Academic Subject-Matter
Walter Block, Wirth Professor of Economics at Loyola University: Economic Correctness
Michael Krauss, Professor of Law, George Mason University: Legal Correctness
Barry Smith, Park Professor of Philosophy at SUNY Buffalo: Political Correctness in Wartime
The keynote lecture will be delivered by Alan Kors of the University of Pennsylvania and Director of the Foundation for Individual Rights in
Education.
